However, we now know that Louis de Marsalle was the product of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's imagination in order to praise his own artistic work. Kirchner - a true professional in self-marketing. He also described his graphic works and techniques as Louis de Marsalle. These texts were very well received by art connoisseurs: "This kind of factual view of art, without flattery and quixotic puffery - has a wonderfully calming and soothing effect," wrote Gustav Schiefler to Kirchner on 12 January 1923.
