Ernst Ludwig Kirchner was a diligent letter writer. Architecture repeatedly plays a role, as in 1935, when he wrote "At the time it seemed very stupid to me that I had to sacrifice so much time for architecture etc., but today I am quite happy about everything I have learned, because without this knowledge I would never have immersed myself in art to this extent." We read excerpts from the letters in front of selected works from the exhibition.
