Focusing on the theme of photography, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's personal voice comes through texts from his letters. The reading moves through the exhibition from station to station, providing insight into Kirchner's relationship with photography. For example, he paid very close attention to the quality of printed photos of his works: "I am sending you the promised photos here... Instructions are precisely on them. And 12 proofs with precise corrections that the print shop must follow exactly. The reproductions are absolutely unacceptable like this. You will see the difference yourself and agree with me that we cannot use such dull reproductions."
In addition, there are thoughts from Susan Sontag's famous essay collection "On Photography". She says: "Photography is the only way through which the view of the world can be permanently preserved – and yet every image remains an illusion that attempts to grasp the truth."
