The Kirchner Museum Davos hosts a very special exhibition titled “My, Your, Our Kirchner. Locals Create an Exhibition.”
As part of a year-long project, people from the region have engaged intensively with the collection and contributed their own perspectives on the work of Ernst Ludwig. 21 curators show what fascinates them about the painter and his work. Sara Smidt, Head of Art Education at the Kirchner Museum, developed the concept and has been responsible for the realization of this project.
SAME TIME, SAME PLACE, SAME IDEA
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner & Carl Spengler
What would Davos be without the Hockey Club Davos (HCD)? The record champion continues to captivate thousands of fans. Sports also inspired Ernst Ludwig Kirchner to create works visualizing movement. Our gallery 2 features work from 1923 onwards. In 1923 Carl Spengler founded the international hockey tournament bearing his name. Both Kirchner and Spengler expressed the hope that international encounters would help create peace between hostile nations. Different sections highlight aspects of the history of the tournament, up to the most recent founding of a women’s team – shown here together with portrayals of women by Kirchner.

LIGHT AND SHADE
A motley group forms against the backdrop of historical and current wars on the theme of light and shade. Throughout his career, Kirchner sought artistic solutions, varying light and shade in his characteristic colors.
The subject will also be considered in symbolic terms, incorporating drawings, photographs, and passages from Kirchner’s letters.

NO ONE HAS ALWAYS BEEN HERE. EVERYONE CAME HERE AT ONE POINT.
Valasians left their home in Valais in the Middle Ages to start a new life far away. Their descendants are at home in Davos and elsewhere. Today, there are again refugees – from Afghanistan, Turkey, Sri Lanka, and Ukraine – who are looking for a new start here. Together, Valasians and refugees are developing an exhibition in which they look at how they live side by side. A door for them symbolizes: Welcome to a new life!
