Behind the Scenes: Meet our Visitor Services Team
A core pillar of the Kirchner Museum Davos is our Visitor Services team. Present in the galleries and at the front desk, they are the first point of contact for the public, a reliable security presence – and truly the heart of the museum’s daily operations. For this magazine, Martina Nommsen sat down with team members Edeltraut Eisentraut and Peter Müller.
The Faces of the Team and Their Connection to Kirchner
Edeltraut Eisentraut has been handling admissions and gallery supervision for 15 years. Her passion for Ernst Ludwig Kirchner began 50 years ago when she moved to Davos and constantly encountered his work in everyday life. Her absolute favorite painting is “Davos in Summer”, with its vibrant colors and stunning depiction of the Tinzenhorn.
Her colleague Peter Müller, a retired physician, joined the team after his retirement. He moved to Davos 20 years ago and discovered Kirchner’s work early on through his father, an architect. Coincidentally, “Davos in Summer” is also his favorite piece, having been gifted to him as a housewarming poster years ago.
“Kirchner’s oeuvre consists of so much more than just his colorful oil paintings; there is always something new to discover in our rotating exhibitions. That alone is always a great reason to visit the museum!” – Peter Müller
A Dynamic and Demanding Routine
The responsibilities of the Visitor Services team are highly diverse: they range from monitoring the exhibition spaces and communicating safety boundaries to welcoming international guests and assisting with special events like concerts or yoga sessions. According to Eisentraut, the role primarily demands stamina, friendliness, language skills, and first-aid training.
To confidently navigate the complex exhibition themes, the team prepares thoroughly: before every opening, they receive in-depth briefings from the director and the curatorial staff.
More Than Just Supervision
Eisentraut and Müller both agree: the Visitor Services team is indispensable. They shape the visitors' first impression, cultivate an open and inviting atmosphere, and bridge the gap to the art through personal conversations. Thanks to their dedication, guests from all over the world feel genuinely welcome – and are eager to return.
