Throughout his life, the Expressionist artist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner explored with his brush how colors affect thought, feeling, and perception. From Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to Mary Gartside and Johannes Itten, numerous voices addressed the question of how colors relate to one another, sometimes in contradictory ways. In this tour, selected color theories enter into a direct dialogue with Kirchner's works.
